Getting Your Managers On Board in Regards to Training and Evaluation
People always ask me what the best method to improve training is. My Four Level Evaluation program is a very effective method to improve programs, maximize the effectiveness of training, and demonstrate the value of learning to the bottom line. But, it is only as good as the degree to which managers support it. And for them to be willing to be involved in evaluation, they must have a sense of ownership for it. There are two ways to ensure managers have a sense of ownership. One of them is to get the managers involved with the content (needs assessment) and, at times, the delivery of the program. The second approach is to ensure there is a process to facilitate encouraging and productive interaction between the manager and the subordinate prior to training, during training and after training. It is easy to say, "get the managers and supervisors to do this or that" but a real challenge is to find the triggers that will actually make it happen. We have found that the best way to do this is to show them what their investment will do. Please CLICK HERE to read the full article. |

The Four Level Evaluation framework
| While practitioners have used the Four Level Evaluation framework for over 50 years, many have not implemented as effectively as possible. Many find that while level one and two are relatively easy to do, levels three and four are often ignored and what is left is what we call “hoping for the best.” My son, Jim Kirkpatrick has been working with practitioners from around the world to develop a compelling chain of evidence using the four levels, and help professionals evaluate at level three and four. The goal is to have an inclusive rather than an isolation approach towards evaluation. |

The recent ASTD event
We had the opportunity of showcasing our products at the recently concluded ASTD event in Atlanta. The sessions led by me and Jim attracted full houses, and the interest on reporting to management the results of training with a chain of evidence was significant. At the exhibition, we had on sale a six audio CD pack outlining our experiences. For more details, please visit CLICK HERE. |

Centre for Evaluation
I am pleased that SMR USA, the organization that I head as Chairman Emeritus, has set up a Centre for Evaluation to promote the research and practice of the Four Level Framework. SMR (Specialist Management Resources) is a company with a mission to help people learn (Levels One and Two) and perform (Levels Three and Four) at the workplace. The Group CEO, Dr. Palan is a long time friend and ardent supporter of this initiative. We will be making several announcements in our website shortly.
